Spring and Summer at Müzewest Concerts!

There are some wonderful concerts coming to Müzewest Concerts this May, June, and July!

We are holding a concert to raise money for the Canadian Red Cross in order to assist people affected by the wildfires in Alberta.

Saturday, May 21st, 2016 – 7:30 PM – Sergei Saratovsky (piano)and Keiko Tokunaga (violin) – VSO School of Music (843 Seymour) – Room 412.

This concert on May 21st will feature wonderful music by Schubert, Tchaikovsky, and Brahms.  This is sumptuous music from the heart of the Romantic period.  This is a Canadian solo début for Juilliard graduate and New York resident, Ms. Tokunaga!

Friday, May 27, 2016 – 7:30 PM – Miya Higashiyama (mezzo soprano) with Carter Johnson (piano) and Nicole Linaksita (piano.)   – VSO School of Music (843 Seymour) – Room 412

Ms. Higashiyama has just returned from masterclasses in New York at Carnegie Hall with none other than Joyce DiDonato!  She will team up with two award-winning pianists from the UBC Faculty of Music!  This is a wonderful evening of song featuring Schumann, Crumb, Bach, and Mozart!

This concert is by donation!

Friday, June 3rd, 2016 – 7:30 PM – Ilya Poletaev (piano) – VSO School of Music (843 Seymour) – Pyatt Hall

Ilya Poletaev is the winner of the 2010 International Bach Competition in Leipzig.  He is also Professor of piano at McGill University.  We are beyond thrilled to have him conclude our regular season with an amazing recital of Bach, Fischer, Shostakovich, and Schumann.  Ilya Poletaev is one of the finest pianists of our time.  This is not to be missed! Friday, July 29, 2016 – 7:30 PM – Sunny Qu (piano) and Aysha Wills (flute) – VSO School of Music (843 Seymour Street)

Sunny Qu is a prize-winning pianist based in Vancouver who studied at UBC with Prof. Buechner and continued to do his Masters of Music with Prof. Hamish Milne at the Royal Academy of Music in London.  Equally comfortable as a soloist and chamber musician, Sunny Qu has been praised for his poised and powerful performances.  Aysha Wills is a very accomplished musician on both modern and Baroque flute – having received her training at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto and the Conservatory of Music in Amsterdam.  She is sought after as an orchestral musician, chamber musician, and soloist.  Her passion for Baroque music has led to many wonderful performance opportunities in The Netherlands and abroad!
