Nathan Meltzer, violin
Umi Garrett, piano / harpsichord

“The Joyful Mysteries” invites listeners on a rich sonic journey beginning with the first five sonatas of Biber’s cycle, paired with works that explore their tonalities. Violinist Nathan Meltzer and pianist/harpsichordist Umi Garrett open with Biber’s Sonata, followed by Saad Haddad’s Kaman Fantasy, weaving Arabic maqamat scales, quarter tones, and scordatura. Arvo Pärt’s modal Fratres offers meditative beauty before Ravel’s stormy Tzigane. Inti Figgis‑Vizueta’s earthmaker blends improvisation with drone textures. The program closes with Gabriel Fauré’s joyful Sonata in A Major, a serene return to timeless tonality, uniting tradition and innovation in a single evocative program.
