FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Vancouver, BC. September 16, 2021) ⎼⎼ On Saturday October 2, Vancouver-based musical non-profit organization Müzewest Concerts will be holding its first in-person concert since the Covid shutdown. ‘Into the Shimmering' will be an unforgettable evening of art songs composed exclusively by women, and will take audience members on a musical journey of varied soundscapes and emotions. The concert will feature Vancouver Opera conductor Les Dala on piano alongside acclaimed singers Robyn Driedger-Klassen and Leah Giselle-Field.
The performance will look a little different from previous Müzewest Concerts due to COVID19 restrictions: limited seating, mandatory masks, and physical distancing will be observed. The concert will also be recorded so that those who wish to watch from the comfort of their homes can do so. Despite these differences, Artistic Director Jennifer West is thrilled to bring music back into a physical space, and her excitement is palpable.
“This is the first time Müzewest is introducing a program of art songs composed entirely by women,” said West. “This will hopefully be the start of many more concerts that bring to life the important contributions of women to music.” Soprano Robyn Driedger-Klassen added, “Women have been composing and performing music since the beginning of time, yet have not always been part of the story. I’m pleased to honour these women, whose lives and work have so much to teach us.”
Dala shared his enthusiasm as well. “I am overjoyed to be performing for Müzewest Concerts after a long absence from live performances”, he said. “It has been a gift to work on this exquisite program dedicated exclusively to the legacy of women in music. Our program features works by four Canadian composers. Sharing these works with a live audience creates a special kind of bond and experience that cannot be replicated.”
Into the Shimmering will be held on Saturday October 2, 2021, 7:30-8:45pm, with no intermission, at St. Helen’s Anglican Church in West Point Grey at 4405 West 8th Avenue. Tickets are $20-$40 on Eventbrite.

About Müzewest Concerts
Müzewest’s mission is to help make classical music accessible to everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status. They are able to achieve this by bringing world-class musicians to small venues across the Lower Mainland, thereby keeping costs down. Müzewest’s priority is for young people and individuals studying music (in all capacities) to have access to these performances since it helps young people develop socially, emotionally, and intellectually. Their mandate states that each artist that performs at a Müzewest concert gives a concert at no charge to a local public school and a masterclass for students of their particular instrument.
